Applications
Essential to human life, hydrogen is present in almost all molecules in living things. Hydrogen is an alternative fuel method, with hydrogen gas generated from H20 for a cleaner energy substitute. Hydrogen is used in the production process of the chemical, glass and electronics industries.

Challenges
Electrolysis can be used to create alternative energy sources that result in zero greenhouse gas emissions in the pursuit of a renewable source. This effort splits the hydrogen and oxygen within the water, but if the water isn’t pure, then the process cannot occur. During the process, large ions cannot be present in the water because they have the potential to rip through the hydrogen membranes, and high-purity water must be used.

Catalysts are the backbone of many industrial processes, which use chemical reactions to turn raw materials into useful products. They are integral in making plastics and other manufactured items. Manufacturers are faced with trying to optimize efficiency and find a way to speed up chemical reactions with higher yields and product purity.

Purolite™ UltraClean™ UCW1008 is a specialized ion exchange resin for green hydrogen production. This resin is highly effective in water purification for electrolysis, ensuring the production of ultrapure water quality. It is used in various electrolysis systems, including Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM), Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM), and Alkaline Electrolysis (AEL) systems. The resin’s ultra-low Total Organic Carbon (TOC) grade and very high operating capacity make it ideal for demineralization and water loop purification, contributing to efficient and sustainable green hydrogen production.
