Potential Ion Exchange Resin Applications for Beet Sugar Factories

The potential applications of ion exchange resins in beet sugar factories are extensive. General descriptions of these applications can be found below. In addition, Purolite has a large number of resin technologies currently used in beet factories, which have been grouped together by common specific use.

Macronet™ Adsorbent for Color, Taste and Odor Removal
any soft drink bottlers, liquid sugar refiners and sweetener producers have replaced their carbon with Purolite Macronet adsorbent for removal of color, taste and odor. Macronet adsorbents are operated in an ion exchange vessel and utilize a low energy chemical regeneration to restore the exhausted adsorbent’s performance.

Shallow Shell Resin for Water Treatment
Shallow shell resins contain an inert (non-functionized) core which results in very efficient regeneration of the functional groups in the shell region. Shallow shell resins have been used for decades saving regenerant chemicals and rinse water in water softening and water demineralization while producing higher purity levels.

Arsenic Removal from Groundwater
Naturally occurring arsenic in groundwater very commonly exceeds the maximum environmental limit in locations around the world. Arsenic selective ion exchange resins reduce the arsenic to safe levels.

VOC Removal
Purolite adsorbent resins are used for volatile odor removal from vapor, water and syrup streams. The adsorbents are regenerated in the same manner as ion exchange resins.

Hydrogen Sulfide Odor Removal
Strong base anion exchange resin in Cl- form can be used to remove H2S from aqueous solutions to reduce obnoxious odors.
