The idea of Purolite began in 1980 when brothers Steve and Don Brodie recognized an opportunity in the ion exchange industry, and this vision grew to the international leader that it is today.
2020 Supported the commercial launch of NGL COVID-19 Spike Protein Affinity Resin, a novel affinity resin utilized in the purification of COVID-19 vaccines.
2021 Broke ground on new USA pharmaceutical product manufacturing facility. Ecolab acquired Purolite forming Purolite, An Ecolab Company.
2022 Opened new bioprocessing manufacturing expansion and Customer Experience Centre in Wales, UK. Pharmaceutical APIs resins manufacturing site opened in King of Prussia, PA, USA.
2010 Innovation and upgrades the Romanian laboratory and Ekaterinburg, Russia. Opened the Orlando, Florida, U.S. warehouse.
2011 Opened Kyoto laboratory and Krasnoyark, Russia sales office.
2012 Innovation and upgrades to the Romanian laboratory. Purolite unveils new logo and brand identity.
2013 Opened the Brazil laboratory. Adsorbent plant built in China. Expansion of Clean Room 2 in Romania.
2014 Jetting plant commissioned in Romania
2015 Changed to a non-solvent manufacturing process at our Romanian and USA facilities.
2016 Clean room 3 commissioned in Romania.
2017 Clean room 4 was commissioned in Romania to make specialty high tech polymers.
2018 Agarose facility in Wales, UK opened making Purolite the second largest agarose manufacturer in the world. $10MM upgrade to waste treatment plant in China.
2019 Moved the Global headquarters from Bala Cynwyd, PA, U.S.A., to King of Prussia, PA, U.S.A. Created a collaborative work environment with the most sophisticated communications technology.
2000 Opened the Research and Development Center in Moscow.
2002 Opened Middle East office, Amman, Jordan sales office.
2003 Opened Uzbekistan, Tashkent sales offices. A pharmaceutical production facility with two clean rooms was built in Victoria. The facility obtained FDA approval to start production of API.
2004 Opened Japan sales office.
2005 Production facility in Wales stopped. A major multiyear refurbishment of Purolite China plant was undertaken.
2006 Purolite China Ltd’s Hangzhou production facility passed Deqing EPA’s environmental assessment and inspection for industrial discharge.
2007 Opened the Centre of Excellence in the Wales. Purolite opens a 7,000 sq. ft. research facility in Zhejiang, China.
2008 Opened the Johannesburg, South African sales office. Improvements made to U.S. operations including the installation of a global quality management system, the linking of global manufacturing and R&D sites, the harmonization of quality control specifications and standards, the introduction of dedicated production lines for high-grade products, various plant expansions & upgrades, and the installation of regeneration facilities for potable and biodiesel product lines. Investment was made to expand the R&D center in Wales, UK and improve environmental and energy resources.
2009 Opened Maharashtra, India sales office as well as a sales office, technical service and warehouse facility Estado de México, Mexico.
1990 The high demand for products throughout the world was the impetus to grow the global salesforce, develop new product lines and build new manufacturing plants.
1991 Opened Canada sales office.
1992 Purolite began negotiations to establish a manufacturing site under the name Virolite Functional Partners, a joint venture between Viromet SA, a majority State-owned Romanian Chemical Company and Purolite Limited. Purolite purchased all shares in Virolite Polimeri Functionali SA in 2004 and changed name to Purolite SRL.
1992 Opened Romania sales office
1993 Opened Gdynia, Poland and Barcelona, Spain sales offices
1994 Opened Singapore, Czech Republic and Moscow, Russia sales offices.
1995 Purolite enters the Chinese market, co-investing with Hangzhou Zhengguang Chemical Group to establish Hangzhou Purolite Zhengguang Chemical Co.,Ltd. Sales offices open in the country, including Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Jinan, Deqing, Shenyang, Xian, Xingjiang and Shangai. The China manufacturing plant opened and became the world’s largest producer of cation and anion resins as well as adsorbents and catalysts. Began building a new manufacturing plant in Romania. Purolite purchased all shares of Hangzhou Purolite Zhengguang Chemical Co in 2004 and changes name to Purolite (China) Ltd.
1996 Opened St. Petersburg, Russia and Almaty, Kazakhstan sales offices.
1997 Opened Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine and Taiwan sales offices. Completed construction of state of art IER production plant in Victoria, Romania. The plant was commissioned successfully in Q4.
1998 Opened Seoul, Korea sales office.
1999 Opened São Paulo, Brazil sales office.
1981 Purolite was formed. The original logo was designed at Steve’s kitchen table and the operations began in Don’s basement. Purolite was the new and affordable product on the market.
1982 The first sales hire, an independent representative, was brought on to help sell the product line.
1983 Rental of the model airplane factory, now known as the G Street location in Philadelphia, PA, U.S.A. was the new site to clean and regenerate resins within tanks. Location purchased in 1987
1984 Purolite contacted by Welsh Development Authority about the sale of an ion exchange resin factory in Pontyclun, Wales, UK. Purolite purchases the factory, formerly owned by Diamond Shamrock.
1985 Pontyclun factory commissioned. Purolite took the leap from distributers to manufacturers of ion exchange resins. The U.K. factory manufactures cation, anion gel and acrylic resins. It has capability to produce pharmaceutical products as well as high purity resins. Full laboratories for QC, R&D and Tech Services were established. It serves as a headquarters for Purolite’s European administration. And, in that first year the European operations were established to include a European Sales team in UK, Paris, France, Ratingen, Germany and Milan, Italy.
1986 Purolite was awarded large pharmaceutical contract and entered the pharmaceutical market.
1987 Purolite purchased the G Street location and expanded the facility in Philadelphia, PA to produce cation resins, make mixed beds and powdered resin.
1988 A fire in the model airplane factory above the G Street factory burned the factory down in a 6-alarm blaze, and the factory was destroyed. No injuries reported.
1989 The new and improved G Street factory was rebuilt to be a state-of-the-art cation manufacturing and the demand for Purolite’s product grew. This new innovative facility ensured that Purolite stayed ahead of the competition. Purolite was the first adopter of non-solvent production process and continues to be a leader of innovation. The G Street plant began manufacturing gel and macroporous cation, catalysts, resin powders, mixed beds, ultrapure water resins and nuclear grade resins.
