Supplemental Ingredients

While amino acid and vitamins are what most people think first when thinking of diet supplements, there are many other nutrients that can have a positive biological effect for improved health. Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), dietary supplements are deemed to be food consumed orally. Supplement products contain ingredients extracted from plants or animals or fungi or bacteria or they can be made synthetically.

There are many examples of supplements used for various health reasons. Protein-containing supplements are aids to people recovering from illness or injury, hoping to lose weight while minimizing muscle loss, or athletes trying to increase their protein intake. Whey protein is a popular protein ingredient, but products may also incorporate casein, soy, pea, hemp or rice protein. Fish oil is a commonly used fatty acid supplement because it is a source of omega-3 fatty acids considered to be essential to the diet. Other dietary supplements can be manufactured from plants including curcumin, resveratrol, glucosamine and many others.

Purolite technology is used in the extraction and purification steps in the production of these compounds. Our wide range of adsorbents enables Purolite to offer solutions compatible with any system.
