Plant Maintenance Technician

Department: Agarose Manufacturing
Reports To: Head of Engineering
Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days (06:30 – 18:30) OR 5 days / week (08:00 – 16:30)

Role Description

Work in Purolite’s Agarose Manufacturing Facility to ensure all electrical equipment is safe, functional, and fully maintained to the highest standards. Working primarily as an electrical technician this role will require skills in mechanical aspects, which will be supported by training. Carry out troubleshooting as a key part of the engineering team to support production and continued safe operation to deliver manufacturing output targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the continued running of the Agarose Manufacturing Facility for all electrical equipment through a hands-on approach.
  • Work with the engineering team, as well as proactively, to carry out preventative maintenance, support service visits, calibration, reactive maintenance, inspections, and other measures to ensure continued production with respect to electrical equipment.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team on all areas of the production equipment. This may require training for mechanical aspects of the role.
  • Aid the development of maintenance procedures and other Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental documentation as necessary.
  • Working safely on site and adhering to health and safety procedures for maintenance work.
  • Work with Process Engineer, Plant Electrical Engineer & other production/R&D staff on troubleshooting and improvement projects.
  • Ensure all maintenance (internal & contractors) work is carried out correctly, safely and recorded as per the procedures.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in the facility and be available for remote support and call out – process to be defined.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by management of the company.


  • Experience of logical fault finding and repair of and electrical control/automation systems.
  • Experience with three phase, motors, drives and instrumentation involving flow, pressure, temperature, and level measurement.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings
  • Ability to write clear effective reports and procedures
  • Ability to follow complex work instructions and document completed work accurately
  • Ability to work at heights, handle and work with heavy equipment
  • Basic workshop skills
  • HNC qualified in an engineering discipline or time served apprenticeship with experience.


  • Mechanical fault finding for pumps, pipework
  • Experience of PLC systems, Control Panels, HMi's & SCADA Systems (preferably Siemens S7-1500)
  • Experience of working in a chemical environment is desirable
  • Experience of Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance in hazardous areas is desirable
  • 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations desirable
  • Familiar with DSEAR and ATEX zones desirable – Compex training may be required and provided by Purolite
