Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, accounting for about a third of its protein composition. It’s one of the major building blocks of bones, skin, muscle and ligaments. Collagen is also found in many other body parts, including blood vessels, corneas, and teeth. Gelatin is made by cooking collagen. It is almost entirely protein and has many health benefits. Gelatin can be further cooked to produce hydrolyzed collagen. Hydrolyzed collagen has a much smaller molecular weight profile in comparison to native collagen, or gelatin, and doesn’t gel.
Applications
Gelatin is used for the production of pharmaceutical capsules, moisturizers for skin or hair, photographic gelatin and desserts such as jelly, yogurt, etc. It can be used in food production, eaten as bone broth or taken as a supplement. Collagen hydrolysate (high added value) is used in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food industries and with an abundance of reported health claims. Purolite industrial adsorbents facilitate taste & odor removal from hydrolyzed collagen. Our ion exchange resins are used in the demineralization process of gelatin.
