In the production process of some of our favorite beverages, companies need to purify and disinfect the water used in the final drink formulas.

This disinfection is accomplished by using ozone, a strong oxidant that will destroy organic compounds, viruses and bacteria. The challenge is that the ozone process transforms any bromide in the water into an undesirable by-product, bromate, which is a carcinogen.
