A honeybee produces only 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in a lifetime. Honeybees must tap two million flowers to make 1lb. (.45kg.) of honey. Each drop is precious to their production, which means we need to minimize the waste when purifying it for consumption.
Honey undergoes a filtration process to remove traces of insects, grains of sand, honeycomb pieces, wax debris, dust and other insoluble solids. Industrial manufacturers must meet international specifications for production to export and sell honey, including color levels, HMF, acidity (pH control), heavy metals, agrochemical and fructose enrichment/control (avoid faster crystallization).
