Purolite UK has kicked off 2022 by announcing Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Cardiff (Wales) as its inaugural UK Charity of the Year.

Purolite’s innovative Praesto resins play a crucial role in purifying anti-cancer treatments, vaccines, cell and gene therapies and other therapeutics all over the world, and the company is now hoping to raise a significant amount of money for Maggie’s through a variety of staff events throughout the year.

It’s hoped that the 130+ Purolite employees in Llantrisant, Wales can not only help to plan fundraising initiatives and support programmes for Maggie’s in South East Wales but also to help to share the charity’s story and how it works to help those affected by cancer every day.

Maggie’s Centres across the UK offer both group and one-to-one workshops and courses aimed at changing the way people live with, and deal with, cancer. The independent charity, which is based at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, focuses on things that really make a difference, such as money worries, help with stress and depression, managing side-effects and relationship and family support. Their support has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing, and to help people take control when cancer turns life upside down. All of the support Maggie’s provides is free with no appointment is required.

With our usual fundraising activities cancelled, raising the money needed to fund our centre has been extremely hard. We’re so pleased and excited to receive this news from Purolite and we’re looking forward to working together throughout 2022 to raise much needed funds for our centre. The money raised will allow us to continue to help people with cancer and their family and friends with emotional support and practical advice or by simply offering a place to go where they can meet and talk to people who are going through the same things.
