Chromalite A860/5952 is ideal for isolation of proteins, especially for proteins from milk and dairy products. The charge on the protein is dependent of the working pH, resulting in three situations:

pH = IEP (iso-electric-point) = Protein is neutral
pH <IEP = Protein is positively charged
pH >IEP = Protein is negatively charged

By selecting the right pH conditions, selective adsorption of a protein can be achieved. Optimal protein separation is achieved when the target protein possesses a charge that is opposite to the other proteins in the solution. Under these conditions, protein will selectively adsorb on an IEX resin. A well-known example for this approach is the separation of Lactoferrin from whey using an anion exchanger. A similar approach can be applied to other proteins. Conditions are adjusted in such a way that the target protein possesses a negative charge, while the untargeted proteins are positively charged.

Chromalite A860/5952 is an ideal choice, due to its hydrophilic and protein-compatible matrix. The resin rigidity and particle size also allows packing in industrial columns.
