Purolite employees celebrate the unofficial start to summer with food, fun and friendly competition

In the United States, Memorial Day is celebrated every year on the last Monday in May. It is a national holiday that honors those that have served and died while active in the American armed forces. Employees have off from work to pay their respects to the fallen solidiers by visiting memorials and flying the nation's flag.

The weekend is commonly spent with family and friends at a ballpark, a swimming pool, or in the backyard where traditional American food is enjoyed. This includes hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, sausage and a variety of side salads and desserts. It is a way of pausing to remember the meaning of the day, while enjoying the beauty in life.

Purolite treated employees at the U.S. office and plant location in the preceding week of the holiday by holding a barbecue and hosting cornhole, which is a popular beanbag toss game.

The office celebration was held on Thursday, May 25. Although rain and gloom prevailed outside, it was warm and jovial indoors as a wonderful catered lunch of pulled chicken, kielbasa, potato salad, baked beans and dessert was enjoyed by all. The weather didn't dampen the desire to play cornhole either. Instead of being outside, the boards were set up in the hallway where participants discovered some interesting tactics to score points and block opponents by using the walls, cielings and hard floors.

The G Street plant started the weekend in great style as the weather on Friday, May 26 cooperated and enabled a full-on traditional cookout with burgers, dogs and all of the fixings. Managers took turns at the grill cooking up lunch for everyone. Cookies, sweet watermelon and LOTS OF CUPCAKES were the desserts of choice. Cornhole is always welcome at the plant, where employees will vie for a championship title later this summer.

Employees from the plant and the office also contributed generously to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they elected a payroll deduction for charity in return for raffle tickets for zoo and movie tickets.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the events and we wish you a safe, happy summer for 2017!
