The porosity and pore structures are designed specifically for the purification of monoclonal antibodies.

All Praesto products provide an advanced, high-flow, highly cross-linked agarose base matrix, and are also available in a selection of pre-packed column formats.

The entire range benefits from excellent pressure flow and drop characteristics and excellent stability for optimal recovery of active proteins.

Additionally, the Praesto base beads are available in both non-functionalized and activated chemistries, suitable for further ligand immobilization and resin development.

​Why agarose?

Agarose is widely considered the best material available for protein purification resins, with the vast majority of approved commercial processes today utilising agarose in their purification platform.

Compared to synthetic resins, agarose resins provide: 

  • Easy handling at large scales (packing and re-packing)
  • Exceptional lifetime due to NaOH stability
  • Extremely low non-specific binding (due to naturally hydrophilic properties)

​Monoclonal Antibody Platform Purification

The purification of commercially-available monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) on the market today is typically done in three chromatography steps:

1) Utilise Protein-A affinity resins - typically the first choice in the purification process because they deliver high purity (> 99%) and yield in a single step.

2) SP cation exchange as the first polishing step in bind and elute mode to remove aggregates and HCP

3)  Q anion exchange in flow-through mode, as a scavenger to remove trace contaminates and ensure sufficient viral clearance.
