Regulation (EC) N0 1272/2008: Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP)
CLP requires manufacturers and importers of products into the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA) to:
- Reclassify and relabel substances by 1 December 2010. Products that are already in the supply chain and "on the shelf", have a further 2 years transition period (until 1 December 2012)
- Notify the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) of the classification and labelling of substances that have not already been supplied as part of a valid registration under REACH. All hazardous substances within the scope of CLP, either on their own or contained in a mixture above legally defined concentration limits, and which are imported or manufactured and placed on the market within the EU.
- Reclassify and relabel mixtures by 1 June 2015. Products that are already in the supply chain and "on the shelf", have a further 2 years transition period (until 1 June 2017).
Ion Exchange Resins, Catalysts and Adsorbents are classified as mixtures (apart from a very few special products), see below.
Purolite completed Notification, Labeling and Safety Data Sheet changes by the required dates above and continue to ensure all Regulatory requirements for our products are achieved.

A mixture means a mixture or solution composed of two or more substances (Note:“Mixture” (CLP) and “preparation” (REACH) are synonymous) and a substance is a chemical element and its compounds in the natural state or obtained by any manufacturing process, including any additive necessary to preserve its stability and any identified impurity deriving from the process used, but excluding any solvent which may be separated without affecting the stability of the substance or changing its composition
