Purolite commitment to REACH
 
New European regulation on chemicals entitled REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) come into force at the end of 2008. REACH requires all substances imported into or manufactured in Europe to be registered.

Purolite is committed to registering all products and substances required by REACH and are on track to meet the pre-registration deadline.
 

A brief REACH summary:

  • REACH entered into force on 1 June 2007.
  • Applies to substances imported or manufactured in Europe for >1 t/a and all new substances (unless exempt)
  • Requires substances to be supported by a Technical Dossier
  • A pre-registration window is opening June 1st, 2008 to December 1st, 2008
  • The European Chemical Agency (ECHA) have a free tool IEUCLID to help manage pre-registration documentation.
  • Time to file from the end of 2008 is dependent of volumes of the substance:
    • 3.5 years for substances >1000 t/a
    • 6 years for substances >100 t/a
    • 11 years for substances >1 t/a
  • Solid OECD Polymers per art. 3(5) are exempt from REACH

Purolite situation, actions and plans

  • For our European manufacturing operations, the majority of raw materials are from European manufacturers
  • IEUCLID a software utility from ECHA is being used to simplify the pre-registration pocess
  • The majority of Purolite finished products are OECD Polymers per art. 3(5) and are exempt from REACH.
  • We have requested all our suppliers notifying them of the REACH requirements and requested information of each suppliers REACH plans.
  • We are tracking all raw material pre-registration progress to ensure each is pre-registered as per the timeline.
We anticipate that all Purolite products and raw materials will be ready for submission during the pre-registration process and that we will meet the timeline outlined above and do not expect any supply chain issues as a result of any of ourselves or our suppliers being in non-conformance.
